Monona Lakefront Outdoor Living: Pool Deck, Veranda & Shoreline Transformation

This Monona lakeshore project is one of our most complete outdoor living transformations — a full-property redesign for a new lakefront home that needed everything, from the front entry to the water’s edge. The result is a seamlessly layered space: a pool patio finished in natural stone and porcelain pavers, a custom-crafted pergola veranda, a gas fire bowl for year-round evenings on the lake, and a restored shoreline planted with Wisconsin native species. Every element was designed to complement the Capitol views across the water and to stand up to the demands of lakefront living.

Pool Deck & Patio Details

The pool patio centers on a combination of natural stone and large-format porcelain pavers. These materials were chosen for their durability in Wisconsin’s freeze-thaw climate and for the clean, high-end aesthetic they bring to the pool surround. The layout was engineered to create defined zones: a generous sun shelf for lounging, a dining area, and a shaded retreat beneath the pergola, all flowing together without visual clutter.

Pergola & Fire Feature

A custom-built pergola anchors the outdoor living space, providing shade and architectural definition without blocking the lake view. At the heart of the patio, a gas fire bowl creates an inviting focal point — easy to ignite, low maintenance, and striking after dark. Integrated landscape lighting extends the usability of the space from sunrise to well after sunset.

Shoreline Restoration & Native Plantings

The lakefront edge received a full shoreline restoration using Wisconsin native plants selected for their ability to stabilize the bank, filter runoff, and attract pollinators. This natural buffer not only protects the property from erosion but creates a living transition between the manicured patio and Lake Monona — one that actually improves year over year as the plantings mature.

Front Entry Landscape

No detail was overlooked at the street-facing entry. Custom landscape plantings, architectural lighting, and clean hardscape lines establish a strong first impression and set the tone for the craftsmanship found throughout the property.
